Woodhull Intermediate has been painted, polished and cleaned over the past two months and now it’s ready to resume pursuing its mission of educating hundreds of fourth, fifth and sixth graders that will soon flood into the building’s well-appointed classrooms.

The Woodhull Intermediate School and Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School communities came together last weekend for an unforgettable day of school spirit, wellness, service, and community connection during the annual Color Run and Community Market Day.

She’s only been the faculty of Huntington UFSD a relatively short period of time, but Nicole Leggio, who helped launch the Learners Who LEAD service program at Woodhull Intermediate School has already made a big difference in the lives of students there.

Woodhull Intermediate School’s sixth grade dual language students hosted a vibrant "Spanish Speaking Countries" presentation last Friday. The event served as a significant milestone, marking the conclusion of their journey at the intermediate level before they transition to middle school next year.

Alistair McKay is exceptional. The Woodhull Intermediate School sixth grader scored a perfect 20/20 in the Noetic Learning Spring Contest, placing him in the top ten percent of all sixth graders nationwide.

Woodhull Intermediate School sixth grader recently took learning beyond the classroom walls as part of the Learners Who LEAD program. Students participated in a variety of meaningful service activities throughout the Huntington community, including projects at Centerport Beach, Helping Hands, Sunrise Assisted Living, Tri CYA, North Shore Holiday House, the Huntington Library, and the Centerport Senior Beach House.

Michelle Handschu is thriving in her first year as a school counselor at Woodhull Intermediate School. A member of Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School’s Class of 2019, she always knew “even from a young age,” that she wanted to be a counselor.

Fresh off being honored by the Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education during a gala affair at The Harbor Club at Prime in Halesite late last week, Ronald E. Wilson was celebrated again by the Suffolk County Legislature in Hauppauge for being a “Champion of Diversity.”

While April might be both long and cold, it is also the time for Youth Art Month and Music In Our Schools Month. These twin celebrations were created to highlight the importance of the arts in our lives and in our schools.

The Woodhull Intermediate School family came together as one during a cold winter night. Family Paint Night celebrated individual and family creativity and the spirit of community, which has always been a guiding principle at the school, which opened in January 1967.
