Huntington High School senior and this year’s Homecoming King, Edgar Castro Anariba, is making the most of his high school experience. In addition to being a multi-sport athlete, senior class treasurer, and co-president of United Amigos, Edgar attends Wilson Tech, where he is completing a two-year electrical construction program. As he explores his future career options, Edgar recently participated in H2M Architects and Engineers’ Shadow Day on October 13, 2026.

H2M Architects and Engineers is a professional consulting and design firm with nearly 6,000 employees across five states. The firm works on a wide range of projects, including buildings, infrastructure, and environmental improvements. Through its Shadow Day program, H2M invites a select group of high school juniors and seniors to its Melville office to explore careers in architecture, engineering, and related STEAM fields.

Throughout the day, Edgar met with H2M professionals, learned about the firm’s ACE Mentorship Program, attended “A Day in the Life” presentations, and participated in team-building activities with students from other schools. One of the highlights was the opportunity to shadow an electrical engineer.

Edgar shared that the experience opened his eyes to career opportunities he hadn’t previously considered, including the possibility of traveling to different states to work on projects. He was particularly impressed by how professionals from different fields collaborate to turn ideas and drawings into buildings and whole community spaces.

“It’s incredible what they can create,” Edgar said. “It was very inspiring.”

For Edgar, Shadow Day offered more than just a glimpse into the engineering profession. It gave him a better understanding of how his interests and technical training could translate into a future career. With graduation approaching, experiences like this are helping him explore the many possibilities ahead.
