Huntington Highlights; Nicole Leggio Making a Difference in Huntington UFSD

May 26, 2026

She’s only been the faculty of Huntington UFSD a relatively short period of time, but Nicole Leggio, who helped launch the Learners Who LEAD service program at Woodhull Intermediate School has already made a big difference in the lives of students there.

“Nicole helped launch the Learners Who LEAD service-learning program at Woodhull last year,” Principal Stephanie Campbell said. “She plays an active role in the Woodhull community, contributing her time and ideas through participation on multiple committees and supporting schoolwide initiatives. She supports the fifth grade Eagle Ambassador program, helping to develop student leadership and promote a positive school culture.

Ms. Leggio earned a Master of Science in Education degree in August 2022 at SUNY Brockport with a concentration in education and human development. She earlier obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in May 2018 at Marist College in Poughkeepsie in psychology with certifications in childhood and special education.

“Ms. Leggio’s dedication to student leadership, service, and our school community is evident in all that she does,” Ms. Campbell said. “Through her work with the Learners Who LEAD program and her support of our Eagle Ambassadors, she empowers students to take initiative, give back, and make a meaningful impact within and beyond Woodhull.”

Ms. Leggio previously worked at John Quincy Adams Primary School and May Moore Primary School in Deer Park and at Southdown Primary School. At May Moore Primary School, she was the coordinator and advisor of the Little Buddies Club, which fosters friendships between general education and special education students.

Ms. Leggio is the twenty-first faculty or staff member to be profiled as part of a new “Huntington Highlights” initiative that provides community members with insight into teachers and support staff members who toil at the district’s eight individual school buildings.
