Ruby Hoffman’s Journey of Hard Work, Mentorship & Global Inspiration

May 21, 2026

Senior Ruby Hoffman’s journey as a student intern at Huntington High School is a story shaped by determination, curiosity and the guidance of a mentor who recognizes her potential.

Under the mentorship of Camille Tedeschi, Ms. Hoffman has grown into a driven and thoughtful young professional, balancing academic responsibilities with the demands of real-world experience.

“Ruby is an outstanding student and human being,” Ms. Tedeschi said. “Working with Ruby has been a highlight for me. From the beginning of her internship, Ruby stood out for her work ethic. She approaches each task with focus and accountability, whether it’s managing detailed assignments or contributing ideas during collaborative discussions. Her willingness to take initiative paired with a readiness to learn has made her a reliable presence in the program.”

Ms. Tedeschi has played a central role in shaping this growth. As a mentor, she offers both structure and encouragement, creating an environment where Ms. Hoffman feels supported but also pushed to excel. Their professional relationship is built on mutual respect, with Ms. Tedeschi recognizing the teenager’s potential and Ms. Hoffman valuing the insight that comes from experience. This dynamic has allowed the senior to develop confidence while maintaining the humility needed to keep learning.

Teacher Eileen Gonzalez, who serves as co-advisor to the career internship program has also had the pleasure of seeing Ms. Hoffman in action in the classroom. The teenager created a lesson on anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko and his fight for freedom. “She incorporated her research from National History Day to inform the Global 10 students during her lesson,” Ms. Tedeschi said. “Ruby is a star and the students in her class love her.”

Beyond their work in the classroom together, Ms. Hoffman and Ms. Tedeschi share a meaningful connection through travel. Both have explored countries together including Italy, Spain, Portugal and most recently Ireland. These experiences have enriched their perspectives and often find their way into conversation. Exposure to different cultures and places along with her desire to learn has strengthened her adaptability and communication skills, qualities that are increasingly valuable in any professional setting.

Ms. Hoffman’s weighted academic grade average places her near the top of the Class of 2026. “The key to my success has been keeping myself organized throughout all the courses, sports, and extracurriculars I have done,” she said. “My favorite parts of my high school career have been meeting new people, connecting with teachers, joining clubs, and being a part of sports teams. I have enjoyed being an officer in Student Government, as it has taught me valuable leadership and communication skills. I also enjoyed being on the basketball team because I was able to play a sport that I love with my friends.”

Ms. Hoffman intends to study neuroscience at Villanova University in the fall. While her story is still unfolding, the foundation she has built at Huntington High School is unmistakable. With a strong work ethic, genuine motivation, compassion for others and the drive to succeed, the senior is someone invested in her success. She is steadily carving out a path that reflects both ambition and purpose.
