Blue Devils Upset Northport on Senior Day, 70-58

May 18, 2026

The Huntington varsity boys’ track and field team edged powerful Northport at Blue Devil Stadium on Senior Day, 70-58. There were spectacular performances all the way around.

Junior Eric Heinz continues to dazzle the fans with his performances in running and jumping. He easily won the 800m dash after winning the long jump with a leap of 20'11. Junior Ronnie Jarama won the 1600m run with teammate junior Greyson Henderson placing second.

Senior Titan Elysee won the 400m hurdles with junior Finn Driscoll placing second and junior Shates Miller placing third. Sophomore Wilmer Benitez won both the 100m dash and 200m dash with his dazzling speed.

The day belonged to senior Jean Riboul who joined the "50’s Club" when he tossed the shot put 51'3.25 on his last throw. “The ‘50’s Club’ is a small group of athletes who managed to toss the implement over 50 feet, which is rather difficult to do,” head coach Ronald E. Wilson said.

The record at Huntington in the event of 53'3.25 still stands from the toss of Shaheem Lewis back in 2013. An earlier record of 52'11.25 had stood since 1966 when Henry Jackson tossed the implement. “Very few have come close to that mark,” Wilson said. “Dante Allen in 2012 came the closest to the record when he tossed the shot 52'11, just missing the record by one quarter of an inch.”

Trayvon Toney (50'3.50), Devon Nelson (51'), Vernon Alexander (50'1), Mekai Butts (50-1.25), Gary Barash (50'10), Eric Sands (50'4), and Clay Jamison (51'4) came close to immortality themselves.

“A slew of other Huntington throwers, including myself, weren't so blessed,” Wilson said. “We got stuck at 49'11.”

Riboul would later earn more points for his team by taking second place in the discus with a personal best of 127'10.25.  “He had a great day,” Wilson said.

The Huntington throwers went through the regular season undefeated, besting every team they came up against during dual meets in the throws. The trio of Jean Riboul, Matt Ross and Banny Soc Concua swept the shot put every week, placing first, second and third.  Occasionally, Ross would beat Riboul, likewise was in the discus. Riboul would beat Ross.”

The spring season seniors on the team include Gueniel Elysee, Xavier Garcia, Yasir Jones, Wilver Lopez, Jean Riboul, Matthew Ross and Banny Soc Concua..
