Blue Devil Flag Football Getting Closer
May 15, 2026
The Huntington High School varsity flag football team continued inching closer to its No. 1 goal of joining the circle of Suffolk powers. The Blue Devils are not quite there yet, losing an exasperatingly number of close games. But this spring’s total of five wins is a program best and with most of the lineup returning next year the team is positive about the future.
Coached by Malcolm Eugene and Patrick Reilly, Huntington was captained by Ashley Moreno, Timeyah Hardge, Izabelle Colato and Kymora Dorvilus. Fifteen players completed the season.
Colato led the Blue Devils with seven interceptions. Bella Duke scored eight touchdowns and gained more than 300 yards receiving. Hardge had 89 flag pulls and an interception and two touchdowns. Khi Casey passed and ran for more than 300 yards and ten touchdowns.
“Izabelle Colato is a leader, consistent and an MVP player,” said Eugene, the team’s head coach. “Timeyah is a dynamic athlete and the best flag puller on the team. Khi is a second year quarterback who is still learning and growing. Bella has been a dynamic addition to the team and a prime time player.”
Eugene is looking for “more opportunity” for middle school girls to play on the JV level to develop their talent. His goal for next year is to qualify for the playoffs.
Every starter returns next season. “This is a young, tough, hardworking team that is looking to improve,” Eugene said.
The coach’s strategy for improving Huntington includes off-season leagues and clinics and pre-season workouts. “I plan to work closely with the JV coaches and players to build the program while also establishing relationships with Finley girls to them involved in the sport,” Eugene said. “We also want to host another community event during a game to build interest.”
