H-ton Girls’ Track Excels as Post-Season Approaches
May 8, 2026
The Huntington varsity girls’ track and field team divided and conquered last Saturday as the distance runners competed at the Seahawk Invitational at Cold Spring Harbor High School while the sprinters and throwers traveled to the North Babylon Invitational for another impressive day of competition.
The Blue Devils are coached by Alyssa Salese, Dennis Scruggs and Madison Baudille. The squad is filled with talent at every event.
Leading the way for the distance squad was junior distance captain Norah Moskowitz, who delivered a standout double performance. Moskowitz placed in both of her events, taking second place in the 1500m with a strong 5:05 effort before coming back to dominate the 800m, where she captured first place in 2:25.
The Blue Devils also continued to make major strides in the steeplechase, one of the most demanding events in track & field. Despite being relatively new to the event, Emma Boyle, Hanna Boyle, and Lena Sullivan attacked the race with grit, determination and fearlessness beyond their years.
Hanna Boyle led the trio with a second-place finish, Emma Boyle secured third, and freshman Lena Sullivan rounded out the strong showing with a fourth-place finish.
Freshman Vivian Morrissey continues to find her rhythm this season and earned a new personal best in the 1500m, while sophomore Hennie England added to Huntington’s medal count with an impressive performance in the 800m.
While the distance runners took care of business close to home, Huntington’s sprinters and throwers made plenty of noise at the North Babylon Invitational. Junior sprint captain Justina Hlenski turned in a breakout performance in the 400m, clocking a personal-best 1:09 and continuing to establish herself as a major contributor on the track. Yaqueline Zelaya also delivered a huge PR in the event, running a strong 1:11 and showing tremendous improvement with every meet this season.
Hlenski’s successful day did not stop there, as she also soared to a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 14-9.25. Zelaya joined in on the excitement as well, earning another PR in the long jump with a mark of 13-2.25.
Huntington’s throwers once again showcased their strength and consistency behind senior throw captains Anis Oyuela and Jesley Martinez Canales. Oyuela had a breakout day in the discus, launching a new personal-best throw of 82-4, while also delivering a strong performance in the shot put with a mark of 31-3.5. Martinez Canales continued to demonstrate consistency and leadership in the throwing events, helping anchor another successful outing for the Blue Devils.
With personal records, medals, and breakout performances across every event group, the Blue Devils continue to build momentum as the post-season approaches.
