May 8, 2026

Teacher David Moriarty is continuing to share his expertise and love for math with Huntington High School students and his faculty colleagues. He came to the district in 2012.

Mr. Moriarty has taught a long list of math courses since his arrival in Huntington. He was a member of teams that first utilized data driven instruction to improve classroom education and student outcomes.

“He has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication in guiding the math team through the changes in the Regents curricula,” Department Director Theresa Grossane said. “His commitment to modeling and implementing the Desmos calculator has empowered teachers at both the middle and high school levels. Through his ongoing trainings and collaboration with the geometry team, he continues to foster best practices and strengthen math instruction across the district.”

Mr. Moriarty grew up in Massachusetts. Prior to coming to Long Island, he was the head coach of the girls’ indoor and outdoor track and field teams at Chelmsford High School.

The Huntington faculty member obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics with a minor in anthropology at Union College in Schenectady. He earned a Master of Education in Secondary Mathematics degree at Cambridge College in Massachusetts. He was awarded an Educational Leadership Post-Master’s Advanced Graduate Certificate at Stony Brook University and is a licensed administrator in the state.

“A dedicated leader, he guides the math team, drives Desmos implementation and shares strategies that elevate teaching and learning,” Dr. Grossane said.

In addition to his work in the classroom, Mr. Moriarty has served as a class faculty advisor and as the school-wide student government’s co-faculty advisor. He has served on various committees, such as the Attendance Committee, Leadership Committee and equity team and participated in eSchool Gradebook, restorative practices and growth mindset training.

Mr. Moriarty has also coached baseball and girls’ track and field at Huntington. He has fully embraced life at the high school.
