May 1, 2026

Huntington High School’s photography students were recently recognized for their outstanding work at the annual Huntington Camera Club High School Competition. Each year since 1991, the Huntington Camera Club has hosted this event, welcoming student photographers from across Huntington and beyond to compete in a variety of creative categories.

What began as a small local contest has grown into a major event, now receiving 545 entries from 225 students, representing 12 high schools and 16 teachers, with up to 800 submissions annually and more than $35,000 in cash and prizes awarded over the years.

This year’s competition featured categories including Hands, School Activities, Different Perspective, and Open Category. Huntington High School had an especially strong showing, earning 8 of the 24 total awards—about one third of all recognition given. Individual student achievements included:

• Katie Cocoman – 3 awards (all in the Hands category)

• Yobin Perez Garcia – Different Perspective category

• Sofia Vias – Open Category

• Steven Benitez Arevalo – Open Category

• Andie DiGioia – Open Category

• Alexandra Boeckmann – School Activities Category

Students received their awards at a ceremony held this past Tuesday, presented by the Huntington Camera Club. Photography teacher Pamela Piffard shared how proud she is of her students, noting that she is continually impressed by their individual creativity and dedication to their craft.

“Their success reflects not only their talent, but also their willingness to take risks and explore new artistic ideas,” Mrs. Piffard said. “The Huntington Camera Club continues to play an important role in supporting young artists, shining a spotlight on student talent while also recognizing the educators and community members who help make opportunities like this possible.”
