Trustees Approve New Advanced Placement Business Course
March 25, 2026
Huntington School Board members approved a proposal to create a new Advanced Placement Business with Personal Finance course at Huntington High School for the 2026/27 school year.
The one credit, full year course will be offered to students in grades 10-12. Enrollment is expected to be 25 students. The district’s Subject Matter Council approved the new course on January 12 with the Educational Development Committee giving its approval on February 5.
The course description is as follows:
“Advanced Placement Business with Personal Finance is an introductory college-level course in business skills and strategies and personal financial literacy. Students explore the core business disciplines: entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, accounting and business management through real-world applications, case studies and project-based learning. Additionally, students learn and apply the National Standards for Personal Financial Education as established by the Council for Economic Education and the Jump $tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy.”
“This will be the first AP course offered through Huntington High School’s Business Department, which will serve as an introduction to future business pathways,” Assistant Superintendent Brenden P. Cusack said. “This course will also serve as an excellent precursor for those students interested in Virtual Enterprise. This course provides a comprehensive overview of all aspects of business, allowing students to explore various areas prior to entering Virtual Enterprise and selecting a departmental specialty. Huntington High School was one of a small number of schools nationwide to pilot portions of this course over the past two years, in advance of the College Board’s roll out of the full course. This pilot was well-received by students and our own instructor has been designated by the College Board as a Course Ambassador who has significantly contributed to the refinement of this AP course.”
