Stuff the Bus Continues at Huntington High School

March 10, 2026

The brutally cold and snowy winter has taken its toll on Huntington’s hungry and the local food banks that try to help them. The shelves are increasingly bare so the Huntington High School student government has mobilized to see if it can do something about it.

“This past weekend kicked off Student Government’s annual Stuff the Bus food drive,” said David Moriarty, who serves as the organization’s faculty advisor along with Danielle Raguzin. “Our officers stood outside King Kullen in Halesite and solicited donations of non-perishables and toiletries from the customers entering the store. We received a lot of food and we are doing another collection this weekend.”

That second collection will occur at Shop Rite in the Big H shopping center on New York Avenue. “We will be there from 9 a.m. -3 p.m. so if you are local please consider stopping by to donate,” Mr. Moriarty said. “If you are not able, we will be taking donations of non-perishables and toiletries now through the April break. So clean out those pantries and find something good to bring in!”

Stuff the Bus is an annual high school student government initiatives. Students spend weeks collecting non-perishable food items and when the drive is complete, Huntington Coach Corp. donates the use of a school bus that students’ “stuff” with the collected items and then deliver them around town.

You can drop donations off to room 128 with Dave Moriarty or with Danielle Raguzin in the science office. All donations will go to the Blue Market at Huntington High School and the Tri-CYA youth center’s food pantry that serves the entire community.
