Finley Boys’ Lax Rebounds to 8-2 Record
June 8, 2026
The J. Taylor Finley Middle School boys’ lacrosse team is back near the top after compiling an 8-2 record this spring under new head coach Jackson Zaiff and assistant coach Peter Novellano. Eighth grader Stephen Pagan captained the 20 player squad.
“Stephen Pagan exhibits all the qualities of an outstanding captain,” Zaiff said. “Through his hard work, determination and leadership, hie consistently inspires his teammates to push themselves and be better every day.”
Finley’s biggest accomplishment this spring was to come together as a team and working as one unit. “Believe it or not, 20 guys is not always a lot, especially when we often had even fewer at practice,” Zaiff said. “There were days we had to cancel, adjust drills or completely change the plan on the fly. But the group kept pushing through. Even with low numbers and challenges throughout the season, we found ways to compete, improve and be successful together.”
The coaches want to build the program back up to its previous level of 35-40 players. “Team goals for next year are to improve attendance and commitment, build accountability and keep developing our skills and teamwork so we can be more consistent and competitive and hopefully, put for an undefeated season,” Zaiff said.
Finley will look to turn a corner next season. “Next year’s outlook should be strong,” Zaiff said. “ I expect all of our seventh graders to return. League-wise, I expect our competition to look pretty similar with many of the same teams staying strong and others continuing to develop. With our returning group and continued growth, we should be able to compete at a high level.”
