Southdown Rocks Field Day to Remember

June 3, 2026

Southdown Primary School physical education teachers John Romano and Natalee Schaeffer put on a Field Day to remember.  The energy was electric as students and teachers came together to celebrate this year’s exciting “All-Star Sports” theme!

From the opening events to the final cheers of the day, school spirit filled every corner of the field. Parents lined the field to watch their child participate in four relay race events in the morning. This included a basketball relay, soccer shooting relay, hockey relay and a throwing relay.

In the afternoon the students participated in a Tug O’ War, water relay, crab soccer and an obstacle course. Superintendent Beth McCoy, Deputy Superintendent Christopher Hender and Assistant Superintendents Dr. Rubie Harris and Brenden Cusack all looked on as the Southdown students shined.

The students enthusiastically showcased their athletic skills, teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship while competing in a variety of fun and challenging activities.

“The students were amazing,” Mr. Romano said. “They brought their A-game  all day and the smiles on their faces showed how much fun they were having!”

Teachers joined in the excitement as coaches, motivators, and biggest fans, helping create an unforgettable atmosphere of encouragement and positivity. At the end of the day, laughter, cheers, and friendly competition made the day a true all-star event, highlighting the incredible enthusiasm and pride of the entire Southdown community.

“I would like to give a huge shout out to Nanci Monastero, our kindergarten aide, who tie -dyed all of the staff shirts this year,” Mr. Romano said. “They came out amazing”
