Ruby Hoffman Wins Excellence in Research Award

Ruby Hoffman has captured the Huntington High School National History Day Excellence in Research Award. The Class of 2026 member was honored at the senior academic awards ceremony in the auditorium. The teenager was presented with certificate by Chairman of Social Studies Joseph Leavy.

Ms. Hoffman plans to attend Villanova University in Pennsylvania. The teenager intends to pursue a degree in neuroscience. She was recognized last spring as a Distinguished Senior after tallying an academic grade average in excess of 90 during every semester of high school.

“The key to my success has been keeping myself organized throughout all the courses, sports, and extracurriculars I have done,” Ms. Hoffman said. “My favorite parts of my high school career have been meeting new people, connecting with teachers, joining clubs, and being a part of sports teams. I have enjoyed being an officer in Student Government, as it has taught me valuable leadership and communication skills. I also enjoyed being on the basketball team because I was able to play a sport that I love with my friends.”

An Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, Ms. Hoffman was a member of six separate academic honor societies. In addition to the varsity basketball team, Ms. Hoffman played on the Blue Devil soccer and lacrosse teams, too. She won awards in the National History Day initiative and later served on the History Day club’s executive board. She has also been a world traveler, having visited many foreign countries.
