Alvin Luna Wins SCOPE Educational Services Superintendent’s Scholarship

Huntington Superintendent Beth McCoy presented this year’s SCOPE Educational Services Superintendent’s Scholarship to Class of 2026 member Alan Luna Mancia at the Senior Scholarships & Awards Night in the high school auditorium.

SCOPE Education Services, founded in 1964, is a private, not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, permanently chartered by the New York State Board of Regents to provide services to school districts in New York State. Services offered to local school districts include programs for educators, parents and children.

Mrs. McCoy spoke of Mr. Luna’s strong work ethic and desire to accomplish all of his goals as he sets out to study at Felician University in New Jersey. The school has recruited him to play goalkeeper on the college’s lacrosse team.

Mr. Luna began his education in Huntington UFSD as a Washington Primary School kindergartener. He has volunteered at Tri-CYA, Huntington Assembly of God and the town’s summer camp program. He has also worked part-time at Sting It Up.

SCOPE offerings include professional development, conferences, training, childcare, preschool, elementary enrichment courses, outdoor education, summer environmental adventure programs and workshops/speaker’s bureau for parents and students.

Mr. Luna has a compelling personal story that has touched many members of the Huntington school community. Playing lacrosse for the Blue Devils, earning good grades and graduating on time with the rest of the Class of 2026 have all been important to the teenager.

SCOPE provides services for employment including courses required for New York State certification. SCOPE represents Long Island as a regional study council and is a member of the Study Council Alliance of New York State (SCANYS) and the National School Development Council (NSDC).
