The Huntington Village Lacrosse Club awarded twin $1,000 scholarships to Huntington High School seniors Frank Algieri and Grace Gordon at the 58th annual Senior Athletic Awards Ceremony in the high school auditorium. The two have been stalwarts in the Blue Devil program over the years.
This marks the first time the Award of Excellence scholarship has been presented by HV Lax. Kim Gilroy represented the organization and made brief comments about the two seniors as well as the work Huntington Village Lacrosse performs in the community.
“Our mission is to provide a fun, inclusive lacrosse experience that develops fundamental skills, builds character and fosters lasting friendships within the Huntington community,” according to HVLC.
“The key to my success has been staying disciplined, working hard even when things get difficult, and always trying to improve,” Mr. Algieri said. “I’ve really enjoyed forming great friendships, learning valuable lessons, and being a part of sports teams that felt like family. My commitment to athletics, the leadership and discipline I developed through teamwork, are memories that will stay with me for a lifetime.”
Mr. Algieri plans to study business (finance) at Coastal Carolina University. My intended major is Business (Finance). I plan to attend Coastal Carolina University.
“The key to my success has been managing my time well between school work and extracurriculars,” Ms. Gordon said. “Being able to balance both along with the work between all of my classes has been what has allowed me to thrive. The aspects of my high school career that I have enjoyed most have been meeting new people, learning from my teachers, and playing sports.”
Ms. Gordon has been recruited by Lafayette College to play on its NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse team. She intends to study economics.
“I have been actively involved in athletics and academics throughout my high school career,” she said. “I competed in tennis, basketball, and lacrosse, with lacrosse being a particular highlight as I helped lead my team to county, Long Island and state championships. In addition to sports, I participated in several extracurricular organizations, including Key Club and Latin Club. I was also recognized for my academic achievements through induction into multiple honor societies, including the English Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Latin Honor Society.”
