Alexa Mazure Claims Gooding Wellness Scholarship

July 3, 2026

Alexa Mazure has been presented the fourth annual Gooding Wellness Group Aspiring Helper Scholarship. The Huntington High School Class of 2026 member plans to study nursing at Moravian University in Pennsylvania.

Huntington Assistant Principal Dr. Amy Cobelo presented the award on behalf of Gordon Gooding, the founder and director of the Cold Spring Harbor based Gooding Wellness Group. It includes a $250 stipend.

“The key to my success has been taking a nap every day after school to rejuvenate myself to then do homework,” Ms. Mazure said. “I’ve enjoyed the music program the most through high school because it offers a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. It is also a way I de-stress from school by tuning out everything else and just focusing on playing my instrument. My highlights and my involvement in high school include being a section leader in marching band, president of the Gender & Sexuality Alliance and event coordinator in A World of Difference. My intended major is nursing.”

A member of the Art Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society and National Honor Society, Ms. Mazure excelled throughout high school.

The Gooding Wellness Group Aspiring Helper Scholarship requires the recipient to have overcome one or more obstacles in their academic or personal life and displayed resilience and a strong ability to bounce back and persevere; demonstrated commitment to helping others, such as volunteer work in the community, membership in clubs with a helping mission, assisting teachers, being some their friends rely on for support or guidance; chosen to pursue a college degree in mental health, healthcare or teaching.
