Grace Oliva Claims Edward McGaul Award for Business
July 1, 2026
Huntington Class of 2024 member Grace Oliva has claimed the Huntington Fire Department’s Ex-Chief Edward McGaul Award for Business. It carries a $500 stipend.
Ms. Oliva is a hardworking young woman. She plans to pursue a degree in chemistry at Wake Forest University. An Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor, the teenager earned top grades throughout high school.
“The key to my success has been not giving up, even when classes start to get hard,” Ms. Oliva said. “I keep studying and trying, even when I feel tired and burned out and I’m never afraid to ask for help. One of the things I’ve enjoyed most about high school is playing sports with my teammates. I’ve also enjoyed the feeling of getting good grades after working hard to achieve them. Some of the highlights of my extracurricular activities include playing lacrosse and being part of the team that won the county, Long Island and state championships. I also played tennis, where I enjoyed playing matches and spending time with my best friends. Being part of the National Honor Society gave me the chance to participate in community service that allowed me to be a part of a cause bigger than myself.”
Huntington Fire Department Ex-Chief Neil Getter made the award presentation in the Huntington High School auditorium before a crowd of about 300.
