Woodhull Community Enjoys Family Paint Night

January 27, 2026

The Woodhull Intermediate School family came together as one during a cold winter night. Family Paint Night celebrated individual and family creativity and the spirit of community, which has always been a guiding principle at the school, which opened in January 1967.

Assistant Superintendent Brenden Cusack even got into the spirit of the night.

Art teacher Karen Morea coordinated the evening, which drew 100 students and family members. They worked side by side to create winter scenes inspired by the style of Vincent van Gogh.

“The evening was filled with artistic expression, collaboration and connection, making it a memorable experience for all who attended,” Woodhull Principal Stephanie Campbell said.

Among those participating in the evening were Woodhull parents Robert and Estela Evans and two of their children; fourth grader Hendrix and fifth grader Valentina. All four worked diligently on their parents, with Robert finishing first and offering guidance to the others.

“It was something different and so much fun,” said Hendrix. He would typically have been at a wrestling practice, but the youngster was happy to be with his family in the Woodhull cafeteria.

Mrs. Morea began her career at Huntington in 2006. She has taught art at schools throughout the district. A graduate of Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset she obtained her undergraduate degree with a focus on studio art at SUNY Geneseo and earned a Master’s in Art Education degree at Long Island University at CW Post. She is always striving to learn more about new art techniques and ideas.

Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who posthumously became one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art.

“In a decade, he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of which date from the last two years of his life,” according to Artvee website. “They include landscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits, and are characterized by bold colors and dramatic, impulsive and expressive brushwork that contributed to the foundations of modern art. He was not commercially successful.”
