Huntington Football 103 to Return to Suffolk Division II

The Huntington football program’s 103rd season continues to take shape after Section XI released tentative conference alignments and the date of the first game.

The Blue Devils are slated to play in Division II with Lindenhurst, Commack, North Babylon, Copiague, Newfield, Centereach, Northport, Smithtown East, Half Hollow Hills East, Deer Park and Bellport. The top eight teams in the final regular season standings will advance to the playoffs.

The Section XI Placement Committee will vote on fall season alignments on February 11 with athletic directors voting on last week’s tentative lineup at four conference meetings the first week in March. The Athletic Council will cast the final verdict when it meets on March 18.

Head coaches have been asked to compile and submit materials related to the players returning to the field next fall. The actual seeding meeting will be held on Monday, March 23 at 7 p.m. at Patchogue-Medford High School. Draft schedules will become available within 12 hours following the four meetings on that date.

A draft calendar for the season has also been circulated. Practice would begin on Monday, August 17. Scrimmages would tentatively be held on Saturdays, August 29 and September 5. The first game would be played by Huntington on Thursday, September 10. The regular season would run through Saturday, October 31 with playoff games beginning held the next three weekends. The Long Island Championship will be played over Thanksgiving weekend.

If Huntington were to reach the county championship game the Blue Devils would play for the Suffolk title on Friday, November 20 at Stony Brook University at 7:30 p.m. Should Huntington advance to the LIC game, the Blue Devils would play again on Friday, November 27 at Hofstra University at 12 noon.
