Huntington varsity girls’ indoor track and field head coach Dennis Scruggs had a variety of performances to be happy about as the Blue Devils were sensational at the Art Mitchell Invitational at Suffolk-West in Brentwood on Sunday.
Lena Sullivan got the ball rolling with a blazing fast effort in the freshman division of the 600m run. The teenager covered the distance in 1:49.94 to place fourth in a field of 39. Sullivan has been really coming on strong as of late and is starting to display the talent needed to eventually develop into one of Suffolk’s best.
Junior Norah Moskowitz was again spectacular with a second place finish in a field of 51 runners in the varsity division of the 1000m run in a time of 3:08.26. The teenager is striving to reach the state and national championships this winter and she has been making steady improvements to the times she has posted.
Hanna Boyle placed second in a field of 20 in the sophomore division of the 1000m run in a time of 3:24.43. Boyle is incredibly talented and widely viewed as a future star and she showed again why she is so highly regarded.
In the varsity shot put division, Huntington senior Anis Oyeula finished first in a field of 80 throwers with a toss of 32-03 feet. The teenager is expected to place among the Suffolk leaders at the county championship next month.
