Huntington Captures Silver Status on AP School Honor Roll

January 12, 2026

Huntington High School has captured silver level recognition on the AP School Honor Roll after exceeding a variety of student metrics associated with Advanced Placement courses and exams.

“The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools that have done outstanding work to welcome more students into AP courses and support them on the path to college success,” said Trevor Packer, College Board senior vice president for AP and instruction. “Research shows students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time.”

In 2025, 450 Huntington students participated in at least one AP course; a significant 11.66 percent increase from 2024 and a 29.68 percent increase since 2021. The number of exams administered grew even more dramatically, from 876 in 2024 to 1,109 in 2025, representing a 26.6 percent increase in just one year.

More importantly, AP success rates have also improved. This year, 84.22 percent of students who took AP exams scored a 3 or higher, compared to 76.18 percent in 2024, marking a 10.55 percent increase in the percentage of high-scoring students.

“The students who enter four year colleges with credit from AP accelerate their path to graduation and build confidence for college success,” Mr. Packer said. “And even those who don’t earn college credit, AP coursework provides early exposure to college level work and contributes to a college-going school culture.”

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are “delivering results for students while broadening participation,” the College Board said. “Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit and maximizing college readiness.”

Huntington High School has been unceasing in its efforts to encourage more students to enroll in Advanced Placement classes and to challenge themselves by taking AP exams.

District officials said Huntington is striving to reach the Gold level. The high school’s AP course lineup again has strong class enrollments this year.

The AP Honor Roll evaluates schools across three indicators:

College Credit
This reflects the percentage of students in the graduating class who earned a score of 3 or higher on at least one AP exam in high school (again, only one qualifying exam per student is counted). Huntington High School earned a gold designation, with 44 percent of the class achieving this benchmark. An increase to 50 percent would result in platinum recognition.

College Optimization
This indicator measures the percentage of students who took five or more AP exams in high school, with at least one exam taken in ninth or tenth grade. Huntington High School earned a platinum designation, with 16 percent of the class meeting this criterion. Any percentage above 15 percent qualifies for Platinum.

College Culture
This measures the percentage of students in the graduating class who took at least one AP exam during high school (only one exam per student is counted to avoid undue pressure). Huntington High School earned a silver designation, with 50 percent of the graduating class taking at least one AP exam. An increase to 65 percent would be required to earn gold status.
