Huntington’s College & Career Center is a Happening Place

January 7, 2026

Huntington High School’s College and Career Center located in Room 120 of the main academic hallway is a really happening place. It’s now open to both juniors and seniors and serves as an invaluable resource to guide students through the post-secondary planning process.

Resources include college catalogs, financial aid and scholarship information, SAT/ACT testing preparation and registration booklets, as well as information about summer programs. Computers are also available for career, college, and scholarship searches, virtual tours, communication with admissions offices, and more. “We encourage you to take full advantage of these wonderful resources,” said school counselor Bernadette Walsh, who coordinates the College and Career Center.

To promote open communication and share important information, the Counseling Department has established several tools for students and parents/guardians:

Counseling Department Google Site

This resource contains grade-level information and helpful links. You may access it via the Huntington UFSD website on the Guidance page under “Helpful Links.”

College and Career Center Google Classroom for Juniors

Most juniors have already joined this classroom, but ensure you’ve joined by using the code snufxkma.

Naviance Platform

Naviance is a powerful online tool for post-secondary planning, including résumé building, college and career exploration, and application management. Students can request teacher recommendations through Naviance next year. Access Naviance via CLEVER (students) or the Naviance website (parents/guardians). If a student experience trouble logging in, contact the College and Career Center at 631-673-2131 or your child’s school counselor.

As the college admissions process continues to evolve, proper planning is essential,” said Dr. Ricky V. Papandrea, Jr., district director of school counseling and testing, K-12. “Junior post-secondary planning conferences will begin in the second semester. To schedule an appointment, students must complete and submit the ‘Appraising Myself as I Plan for the Future’ packet, available in the College and Career Center Google Classroom. Once the packet is returned, students will request an appointment.”

Important Dates:

• February 2–13: Junior meetings with Mrs. Walsh during English classes. The “Appraising Myself as I Plan for the Future” packet will be distributed.

• February 27: Completed "Appraising Myself" packets are due in the College and Career Center. College planning appointments will then be scheduled.

• February–June: Individual family conferences held with Mrs. Walsh.
