Flower Hill Hosts Dual Language Cultural Event
February 3, 2026
Flower Hill Primary School’s dual language program came alive at a recent cultural event, where students and families celebrated the richness and diversity of 21 Spanish-speaking countries through hands-on games, traditions, and cultural experiences.
Students traveled from country-to-country, participating in a wide variety of traditional and culturally inspired activities. These included creating Taíno petroglyph art from Puerto Rico using clay and toothpicks, playing dominoes from Cuba, testing their skills with the Honduran balero, receiving Guatemalan worry dolls, and spinning Colombian trompos.
Families also created a llama craft representing Chile, learning that wild llamas are found in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. For Peru, students designed images on aluminum foil using toothpicks to represent the mysterious Nasca Lines—ancient symbols etched into the desert whose creators remain unknown.
As they explored each country, students carried bags to collect materials and goodies, turning the evening into an interactive cultural journey.
“This special event highlighted the heart of our dual language program; providing meaningful opportunities for students to learn about, celebrate, and share one another’s cultures,” Principal Cindy Siegel said. “Through these hands-on experiences, students gained a deeper appreciation for the diversity within our school community and the many cultures represented in our program.”
Ms. Siegel gave special thanks to teacher Glenn Edwards “for spearheading and organizing this incredible event, as well as to our dual language teachers, Desire Lahoz, our DL coordinator and the many other teachers who came out to support the program. Their dedication and enthusiasm helped make the evening such a meaningful and memorable experience for our students and families.”
