Blue Devil Girls’ Lax Starts Season with Seven Straight Wins
April 20, 2026
The Huntington varsity girls’ lacrosse team is off to a 7-0 start to the season, most recently overwhelming Sachem East on its home field, 16-5. The Blue Devils have outscored their opponents by a total of 81 goals.
Huntington led 3-1 in the opening minutes at Sachem East before getting its offense going and taking an 11-2 advantage into halftime. The Blue Devils went on to outscore their foes in the second half, 5-3.
Jolie Weinschreider (26 goals; 7 assists) led Huntington with five goals and an assist with Valentina Puccio (26g; 6a) tallying four goals and an assist. Both players are among the best in the state this spring. Weinschreider is headed to play at Rutgers University when she finishes her career with the Blue Devils. Puccio has committed to play at Hofstra University next fall.
The Blue Devil scorers included Olivia Puccio (13g; 13a) notched three goals and an assist and Grace Gordon (13g; 14a), a Lafayette College commit, had two goals and three assists. Grace Callery (2g) and Norah Golden (6g; 4a) also scored goals in the game. Ava Bencivenga (7g; 6a) had three assists and Kaitlyn Purcell (1g; 2a) assisted on two goals. Grace Kline (1g; 3a) also had an assist.
Weinschreider also locked down five draw controls in the game. Goalie Juliet Johnson recorded four saves and now has 33 this spring. Goalie Andie DiGioia came on and stopped three shots and has eight this year.
As good as Huntington’s offense has been this year, its midfield, defensive and goalie play has been just as spectacular, offering opponents few opportunities to score.
The Blue Devils are now moving into the more challenging stretch of their schedule, both league and non-league and players are working harder than ever to remain unblemished.
