Huntington Girls Deliver Standout Performances at Nassau Invitational
April 13, 2026
The Huntington girls’ track and field team opened the outdoor season in impressive fashion at the Nassau Coaches Invitational at Cold Spring Harbor. The meet was highlighted by personal bests, podium finishes, and standout debut efforts across multiple events.
Leading the way for the Blue Devils were two of the team’s three distance captains, senior Kiley Barch and junior Norah Moskowitz, who both recorded personal bests in the 1500m and earned medals for their efforts.
Moskowitz ran a strong 5:08.32 while Kiley followed with an impressive time of 5:10.56. “It is truly an honor to work with these athletes each day and seeing their hard work translate into results so early in the season is incredibly rewarding,” head coach Alyssa Salese said. “Their performances are a direct reflection of the consistency, commitment and determination they’ve been putting in since the winter.”
Moskowitz continued her outstanding day by returning to compete in the 800m, where she ran 2:27.20 following her breakthrough 1500m race, demonstrating both toughness and versatility.
“The future of the distance program is incredibly bright, with several young athletes already making a statement,” Salese said. Freshman Lena Sullivan made a strong first impression in her 800m debut, running 2:48.54 where she gained valuable race experience. Eighth grader Molly Barba followed with an impressive 2:51.14 in her first 800m, immediately showing she belongs and is ready to compete at this level.
Isla Campbell, another talented eighth grader, made her varsity debut in the 1500m delivering a standout performance by clocking 5:37.94. “Her effort marked a true breakout moment and offered a glimpse into what promises to be a very bright future,” Salese said.
On the sprint side, seventh grader Kaylyn Sutherland turned in an impressive performance in the 200m, finishing in 28.43 and showing tremendous potential at such a young age. Junior and sprint captain Justina Hlenski made an immediate impact in her first-ever track meet, earning a medal in the long jump with a leap of 13-4.5 feet. “Stepping into competition for the first time and delivering at that level speaks volumes about her athleticism and leadership, and both athletes are exciting pieces of the program moving forward,” Salese said. “Their performances reflect the continued development of the sprint and jump program under Coach [Dennis] Scruggs.”
In the field events, Huntington’s throwing captains led by example in a big way. Senior Anis Oyuela had an outstanding meet, placing fourth in the discus with a throw of 80-5 feet and capturing first place in shot put with a mark of 30-3.25.
Fellow senior and captain Jesley Martinez Canales also delivered a strong performance, placing sixth in the discus (74-11.00) and third in the shot put (27-9.50).
“Both athletes continue to set the standard with their leadership, competitiveness, and consistency, and their success reflects the strong work being done with Coach Madison [Baudille],” Salese said.
Additional success came in the frosh-soph division, where Jameelah Seydu earned multiple medals with throws of 21-6.5 in the shot put and 52-4 in the discus.
“Overall, it was a strong and encouraging start to the season for Huntington, with athletes across all event groups stepping up and laying the foundation for what promises to be an exciting spring,” Salese said. “We are incredibly proud of all of our athletes and the way they represented Huntington. I couldn't ask for a better staff and group of athletes to work with each day. This first meet was a glimpse of what is to come for the Huntington girls this season.”
