Blue Devils Capture Medals at Longwood Invitational
April 1, 2026
The frigid temperatures last Saturday didn’t stop the Huntington High School boy’s track team from earning medals at the Longwood Classic Invitational. Earning three medals each were senior Titan Elysee and junior Eric Heinz.
Elysee picked up two silver medals in the two hurdle events placing second in the 110m high hurdles in 16.26 and second in the 400m intermediate hurdles in 59.11. He and Heinz were both closing in on Kaden Reid of Longwood, but ran out of time. Heinz finished third in 59.47. Heinz would later capture second place in the long jump with a leap of 20’10.
Elysee would later team up with sophomore Wilmer Benitez, junior Zayvion McCoy and senior Yasir Jones in the 4x100m relay where they held off Bellport for the gold in 45.96. “It was a hot race with Bay Shore, Chaminade, and Bellport hot on their trail, but anchor leg Jones was able to hold off the late charge,” said Ron Wilson, Huntington’s head coach.
The throwers had the toughest day of all. “They had to throw the steel implements, which they all said they couldn’t feel their fingers because it was so cold,” Wilson said. “Some of them still managed to get off some decent throws earning themselves some medals.”
Senior Jean Riboul earned medals in both shot put and discus. He placed third in the shot put with a throw of 41'7 and fourth in the discus with a toss of 119 feet. Senior Matt Ross placed first in the shot put with a toss of 43'8.75 for the gold.
Also earning medals were sophomores Michael Grover and Artturi Landau, who teamed up with juniors Adan Ntambwe and Heinz in the 4x400m relay. The quartet finished a close third in 3:46.93 earning bronze medals. “This was a good start for the Blue Devils,” Wilson said.
The Blue Devils’ next meet will be at Huntington for the Dennis Walker Relay Showdown on April 11 starting at 10 a.m.
