Southdown Rallies for Huntington’s Blue Market
April 1, 2026
Southdown Primary School students recently collected a wide variety of supplies for the Blue Market at Huntington High School. The Blue Market, a collaborative effort led by Huntington High School staff and students, was created to support students and families in need by providing essential items such as toiletries, food and clothing.
“As part of Southdown’s ‘Give Back’ philosophy, our students partnered with Huntington High School students to help make this initiative possible,” Principal Jill Amott-Erwig. “The high school volunteers demonstrated outstanding leadership and generosity by organizing, picking up the donated supplies from Southdown and transporting them back to the Blue Market where they carefully sorted and stocked the shelves. Their willingness to collaborate and take an active role in every step of the process made this partnership especially meaningful.”
Thed experience not only reinforced the importance of community service, but also highlighted the power of students working together across grade levels to support one another.
“We are incredibly proud of the compassion, teamwork, and dedication shown by both Southdown and Huntington High School students,” Ms. Amott-Erwig said. “Their commitment to giving back truly reflects the strength and spirit of our community.”
The Blue Market (food pantry) & Blutique (clothing and other personal items) was established to support Huntington High School families facing food insecurity and other needs. Organizers said the goal is to collect and distribute supplies, food and clothing to create a free, comprehensive resource for students.
The pantry and closet are student-run, with organization and stocking managed by student volunteers, teachers and support staff. Various student groups and community organizations host food drives to keep the pantry well-stocked.
