Huntington Girls Soccer Off to a Strong Start

The Huntington Blue Devils girls soccer team is off to an impressive start this season, entering the week with a 5-1-2 record. While the team’s results have been strong, Head Coach Corcoran says the foundation of the season has been built on something even more important: teamwork, mindset and a commitment to daily effort.

“This season has been all about what it takes to win as a team,” said Coach Corcoran. “It comes down to mindset and daily effort, including how we navigate different roles, whether starting or coming off the bench.”

The Blue Devils have developed strong chemistry both on and off the field, and that connection has translated into success during games. The team features a talented and experienced group, with six seniors and nine juniors regularly making up the starting lineup. At the same time, Coach Corcoran emphasizes that the entire roster has played an important role in the team’s success, with players consistently stepping in from the bench and making an immediate impact.

Senior captain Madyn Kalb, a four-year member of the team, said the Blue Devils have continued to grow more connected as the season has progressed.

“I feel like we can make it pretty far this season,” said Kalb. “The team this year feels connected both on and off the field. We’ve had some really good games, including the upset against East Islip, and I feel like we’ve been improving and getting more comfortable playing together as the season goes on.”

Senior captain Ava McDonald echoed that sentiment, noting the team’s commitment to the high standards it established before the season.

“We came into this season with a lot of expectations for ourselves, and we’ve really tried to hold ourselves to the standards we set,” said McDonald. “We have been playing together since the summer, and I think that has made a big difference in how we play and how we’ve grown as a team.”

Junior captain Lia Zivkovic said the relationships the players have developed away from the field have helped strengthen their performance on it.

“I think we have a really special group this year, and I’m really excited about what we can accomplish together,” said Zivkovic. “The relationships we’ve built off the field have helped us become more comfortable and trusting of each other when we play.”

As the season continues, the Blue Devils remain focused on taking things one game at a time and continuing to improve. Coach Corcoran believes the distinction between wanting to win and doing what it takes to win will be an important focus throughout the remainder of the season.

With strong leadership, team chemistry and contributions from players throughout the roster, Huntington is building on its successful start and looking forward to what the rest of the season will bring.
