Huntington Field Hockey Off to an Impressive Start

The Huntington varsity girls’ field hockey team is off to an impressive 6-0 start as the Blue Devils approach the halfway point of their season.

Led by senior captains Caroline Mitek, Sophie Hoffman and Elliot Manu, along with junior captain Ava Bencivenga, Huntington has quickly established itself as a cohesive, determined team built on hard work, trust and a strong belief in one another.

Mitek has led the Blue Devils’ offensive attack with an outstanding 20 goals and five assists through the team’s first six games, placing her among Suffolk County’s leading scorers. Alongside Mitek, Hoffman, Bencivenga and sophomore Maya Schneider have provided a strong and consistent presence in the forward line.

The team’s success, however, extends throughout the field. Manu anchors a talented defense that includes Cassidy Harris, Shea Gilroy, Luisa Mackey, Francesca D’Eloia and Greenlee Stanford, while sophomore goalkeeper Abby Uvena has provided strong and fearless play in the cage. In the midfield, Alexa Wasoski, Charlie Kindleman and Shelby Mystrik have helped control the pace of play and connect Huntington’s defense and offense.

A highlight of the young season was Huntington’s victory over No. 1 Sachem East, demonstrating the Blue Devils’ ability to compete against top-level competition with confidence, resilience and a team-first mentality.

“We trust and support each other, and genuinely enjoy playing together,” Manu said. “We have a lot of talent and potential, but our biggest goal is to keep working hard, staying together and making the most of this season.”

The Blue Devils have also benefited from strong contributions from their younger players, including freshmen Lia Rotunno, Ava Tortora, Scarlett Philips, Delaney Madden and Gretchen Schmid, as well as eighth-grader Poppy Carey.

Head Coach Kathy Wright and assistant coaches Allie Conlon and Hildi Stanford have been proud to see the team’s years of dedication and year-round commitment translate into success on the field.

“We are so incredibly proud of this team,” Conlon said. “Their determination, trust, and the way they truly believe in and play for one another is what makes this team so special.”

While the Blue Devils are enjoying an undefeated start, they remain focused on the opportunities ahead. Their goals include earning a home playoff game and making a deep postseason run.

“We have a united goal and that is to go far into playoffs,” Wright said. “As a hard-working team with shared effort, drive and the belief in each other, they could make this dream come true.”

With strong leadership, impressive depth and a genuine commitment to one another, Huntington Field Hockey has given Blue Devil fans plenty to celebrate and plenty to look forward to in the second half of the season.
