Travel with Flora the Fox at Flower Hill

This year Flower Hill Primary School teacher Deb Ravo is spearheading an exciting new school-wide activity! As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, Flower Hill will be taking a journey through all 50 states!

“Our students will learn about landmarks, state symbols, capital cities, and fun facts about each state,” Principal Cindy Siegel said. “As we ‘Travel with Flora the Fox,’ we will add a new pin to the large map in the display case near the main office so everyone can follow Flora’s journey throughout the year.

The initiative is beginning with New York and its neighboring states before traveling down the East Coast, across the South, through the Midwest and Great Plains, over to the Rockies and Southwest, and finally to the Pacific states, Alaska, and Hawaii!

Families can join in the fun, too! “Ask your child what state we are visiting and something new they learned,” Ms. Siegel said. “Share your family’s travels with us! If you have an item, picture, postcard, or something special connected to one of the states we are featuring, please send it in for our display case. We will make sure it is returned to you after the state is featured.

September’s travels will include: Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont. “We are looking forward to seeing where Flora’s adventures take us,” Ms. Siegel said.
