Science learning is alive at Woodhull

Science learning came alive in Woodhull’s outdoor classroom! Ms. Engle’s fourth-grade students recently took their learning beyond the classroom walls and into our beautiful courtyard for a hands-on science experience.

Ms. Engle’s fourth-grade students take their love of learning outside.

As part of their Plant and Animal Structures unit, students took advantage of the flowers still blooming in our courtyard to observe plants in their natural environment. Students examined flowers up close, identified the different structures that help plants reproduce, and connected their observations to the concepts they have been studying in class.

Rather than simply learning about plant structures through pictures and diagrams, students had the opportunity to see these structures firsthand, ask questions, make observations, and deepen their understanding of how plants grow and reproduce. This authentic learning experience encouraged curiosity, scientific thinking, and an appreciation for the natural world around them.

Woodhull's outdoor classroom continues to provide wonderful opportunities to bring learning to life, allowing students to explore, discover, and make meaningful connections between classroom instruction and the world around them. What a great way for our Woodhull Eagles to experience science in action!
