Fifth Graders in LEAD Are Making a Difference!
October 13, 2026
Our fifth graders in LEAD are putting leadership into action by finding meaningful ways to make a difference in their school community.
Recently, students explored ways they could help others at Jack Abrams Intermediate School and identified an important need: helping new students feel welcomed, connected, and part of the school community when they join throughout the year.
To help meet that need, students are using Canva to create a “For a Student, From a Student” guide designed specifically for new Jack Abrams students. The guides will provide helpful information while also offering an authentic student perspective on what makes their school special. From navigating the school day to learning about the people, places, and experiences that make Jack Abrams unique, these student-created resources are designed to help new students feel more comfortable and confident from their very first day.
Students are also exploring Canva’s AI translation tools to make their guides accessible in multiple languages, reflecting and celebrating the diversity of the Huntington UFSD community.
What better way to welcome a new student than to hear directly from the students who know Jack Abrams best?
Through the Learners Who Lead course, our fifth graders are discovering that leadership is not just about taking charge, it is about recognizing a need, finding a solution, and making a positive difference for others. These young leaders are doing just that!
