Huntington’s Seal of Civic Readiness Soars
October 9, 2026
The social studies department has been busy organizing and initiating the Seal of Civic Readiness program, and Mr. Leavy, Social Studies Department Chair, reports that over 200 seniors have expressed great interest in working toward the seal.
Essentially, students attain points through experiential civic work such as projects, extra-curricular programs, and civic learning, and then they accrue multiple points through their progress in the area of "civic mindsets." They discuss their plans with their advisor and write reflections about their work.
The Seal of Civic Readiness was initiated four years ago, and 20 students completed projects to qualify for the Seal. In years two and three, the program grew to 50 students and last year, over 110 students accomplished the requirements and were awarded the Seal of Civic Readiness in June. This year's senior class is just as devoted to the program.
Six Social Studies high school teachers have committed to working as advisors for the students, and we are expecting another banner year with this important program.
