Huntington Highlight: Davinder Singh - Head Custodian, Woodhull Intermediate School
October 7, 2026
For more than a decade, Davinder Singh has quietly demonstrated what dedication, pride and service look like in the Huntington Union Free School District.
Mr. Singh joined Huntington in April 2016, beginning his district career as a night custodian at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School. He later transitioned to a day custodial position, where his exceptional work ethic, reliability and willingness to tackle any task quickly became apparent. His dedication ultimately led to his well-deserved promotion to Head Custodian at Woodhull Intermediate School.
Simply put, there is no job too big or too small for Mr. Singh. If something needs to be done, he does it. If someone needs help, he steps in. He takes tremendous pride in his work and in the buildings, students and staff he serves. Those who work alongside him will tell you that he rarely seems to stop or sit down because, in his eyes, there is always something else that can be done.
Woodhull Principal Stephanie Campbell nominated Mr. Singh for a Huntington Highlight after watching him and his custodial team work tirelessly throughout the summer to prepare the building for the opening of the 2026–27 school year.
With significant movement of classrooms, furniture and materials taking place throughout Woodhull, Mr. Singh handled each challenge quickly and efficiently while ensuring the building was ready to welcome students and staff.
“Davinder takes tremendous pride in Woodhull, and it shows in everything he does,” Mrs. Campbell said. “No matter how big the task, he approaches it with a smile and a willingness to help. We are incredibly fortunate to have someone who works so hard each day to make our building a welcoming place for our students and staff.”
Mr. Singh’s reputation for exceptional service, however, was established long before he became Woodhull’s head custodian.
Superintendent of Schools Beth McCoy and Deputy Superintendent Christopher J. Hender still remember working with Mr. Singh when they first began at Central Office in 2017. There was rarely a need to formally ask him to take care of something. If a drawer was broken, they would return the next day and discover it had already been fixed. If something needed attention, Mr. Singh noticed it and handled it.
There was never a job too big or too small. Mention something that needed to be done, and Mr. Singh took care of it immediately. That same approach continues today at Woodhull.
His work ethic is matched by the pride he takes in his family. Mr. Singh is the proud father of two highly accomplished Huntington alumni, making his connection to the district one that extends well beyond his professional responsibilities.
Mr. Singh represents the very best qualities of an outstanding Huntington employee: hardworking, dependable, humble and always willing to help others. He doesn't seek recognition for what he does; he simply sees something that needs to be done and gets to work.
For nearly 11 years, Davinder Singh has helped make Huntington a better place through countless acts of service that often happen quietly and behind the scenes. His dedication to his colleagues, his building and the entire Huntington school community makes him a deserving Huntington Highlight.
