Huntington Students Receive WSCA Scholarships

May 21, 2026

Two graduating seniors from Huntington High School have been recognized as recipients of the 2026 Western Suffolk Counselor Association Scholarships. Each student was awarded an $800 scholarship in recognition of their achievements, perseverance and future educational goals.

The scholarship recipients are:

Marciano Aloe — nominated by school counselor Ruth Escobar — who will attend Suffolk County Community College this fall.

Katie Sorto Cabrera — nominated by school counselor Diana Bonilla — who will attend St. John's University this fall.

The Western Suffolk Counselor Association annually recognizes students who have demonstrated dedication to their academic journey, personal growth, and commitment to their future aspirations.

“We are incredibly proud of Marciano and Katie for earning this well-deserved recognition,” said Dr. Ricky Papandrea, Director of School Counseling and Testing, K-12 for the Huntington Union Free School District. “These scholarships reflect not only their hard work and resilience, but also the meaningful relationships they built with their school counselors throughout their high school experience. We congratulate them and wish them continued success in college and beyond.”

The Huntington UFSD community came together to congratulate both students on an outstanding accomplishment and to celebrate their bright futures ahead.
