The Huntington UFSD’s annual Art Show is set for Tuesday and Wednesday, May 19-20 in the Huntington High School gym. Huntington’s student fashion shows are set for Tuesday at 4 p.m. and again at 7 p.m.
“The students in my fashion classes have been working hard, creating a variety of garments for the fashion show,” said art teacher Kim Valerio, who leads the fashion program. “Fashion 1 students will be walking the runway in dresses, pants, tops, skirts, and more. Fashion 2, Fashion 3, and Portfolio in Fashion students will be walking the runway in a themed portion of the show titled "Wild, Wild West", wearing western inspired fashions that they created. We will also have some surprise guest models walking the runway.”
Both fashion shows and the district-wide art show are open to the public. “My students and I are looking forward to seeing everyone there,” Ms. Valerio said.
The extensive Art Show exhibit will feature artwork ranging from paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics and computer graphics to advertising, fashion design, photography and video arts.
Admission to the show is free. The exhibit will showcase exceptional artwork created by Huntington students on every grade level. The pieces will include every type of media and feature the opportunities available to students in fine and computer-generated art studies.
The fashion show will consist exclusively of student clothing designs and feature student models. Artwork of every possible type will be exhibited throughout the day on Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Residents voting on the budget and capital reserve proposition and three trustee positions will be able to conveniently visit the art show either before or after casting their ballots.
On Wednesday, May 20 the exhibits will be open to the public from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visitors are welcome to spend as much time viewing the show as they so desire on either day.
Some of the works on display will carry Blue Ribbons of Excellence, designating the piece as one of “high merit,” in the opinion of a distinguished panel of judges that will be reviewing the exhibits.
The district’s art program has once again enjoyed a year filled with achievements. Huntington students have captured many awards in numerous contests and shows. These award winning pieces will also be on exhibit during the show.
