Huntington Seniors Capture Suffolk Zone Awards

Jolie Weinschreider and Jack Kamenstein are among Huntington High School’s most spectacular seniors The pair has impressed everyone, gaining the respect and admiration of their teachers, coaches, classmates and teammates.

The teenagers’ spectacular academic performance, outstanding character, notable citizenship and exceptional abilities have been formally recognized by the Suffolk Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

The Suffolk Zone annually honors one senior male and female student from each high school in the county. The award recognizes outstanding performance in physical education over the course of high school.

Ms. Weinschreider has played on Huntington’s soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams, winning honors in all three sports. She has compiled an exceptional academic record and has captained each of her teams. She has been recruited to play lacrosse at Rutgers University, where she will study psychology.

Mr. Kamenstein has played on the Huntington football and lacrosse teams. He, too, is an excellent student academically and has displayed exceptional leadership talents. He has been recruited to play lacrosse at SUNY Geneseo, where he will study business.

To be eligible for the Suffolk Zone Award students must have earned at least a 90 average in physical education class and a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average in all classes prior to the senior year, demonstrate outstanding character, show leadership skills in both physical education class and general school-wide activities and serve as a role model for other students.

Suffolk Zone Honors Additional Huntington Students

The Suffolk Zone chapter also presents health and physical education leadership awards to sensational intermediate and middle school level students who have demonstrated outstanding performance and overall excellence over the years.

This year’s recipients from Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School are Antonio Ackerly, Willow Henderson and Mason Wright.

Recipients from Woodhull Intermediate School include Aiden Legette, Madison Martine, Jake Molina and John Nicholas.

The honorees from Finley Middle School are William Dease, Isla Campbell and Manuelle Hernandez-Colon.

The Woodhull students including Kaylee Becker, Patrick MacManus, Roger Hernandez Gamez and Kaileen Silva.

have been working with Finley teachers Marissa Bergmann, Jordan Ioviero and Travis Smith; Woodhull teachers Carrie Postel and Eric Triolo and Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School teachers Elizabeth Andersen and Shea Scully.

All of the Huntington UFSD were also recognized at the April 21 public meeting of the Huntington Board of Education. Members of the group were presented with certificates by Superintendent Beth McCoy and the district’s trustees.
