Jamyn Husselbeck Wins Outstanding Achievement in Drawing Award

Huntington Class of 2026 graduate Jamyn Husselbeck is this year’s recipient of the Art Department’s Outstanding Achievement in Drawing Award. Teacher Kim Valerio presented the teenager with the award, which includes a stipend of $100.

“My supportive teachers, family and friends have heavily influenced the key to my success,” Ms. Husselbeck said. “Making new friends/creating close relationships with people, especially teachers, advisors and coaches in the school has been meaningful to me.”

The new graduate is already quite accomplished in her field. She demonstrated exceptional talents and professionalism while winning first place in architecture drafting and computer aided design at the Skills USA State Leadership and Skills Championships at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, NY.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization that empowers students to become world-class workers, leaders, and responsible citizens. By engaging industry professionals in the evaluation process, SkillsUSA ensures that student training aligns with current workforce needs.

This year’s theme, “Champion Your Future,” builds upon the rich tradition of competition to include their shared purpose of securing bright and fulfilling futures for all students.

Ms. Husselbeck studied at Huntington High School and at Western Suffolk BOCES’ Dix Hill campus. She was named a Distinguished Senior last spring. She excelled with the Blue Devil indoor and outdoor track teams, serving as a team captain and winning her fair share of medals.

A member of Huntington’s National Honor Society and Art Honor Society chapters, she has even won awards in the Le Grand Concours French initiative.

The Huntington teenager intends to study architecture and urban planning at the University at Buffalo.
