PTA Presents Heart of Huntington Award

Erika Hernandez Veliz, Kiera McGuire, Louisa Skrobela and Charlotte Cassatto are this year’s recipient sof the Huntington PTA Council’s Heart of Huntington Award. The Class of 2026 members have all distinguished themselves through academics, clubs, music, sports, community service, etc.

The Huntington PTA Council presented each of the four seniors with a $500 scholarship. They each represent one of the district’s four primary school buildings; the one where they started their journey through Huntington UFSD.

The Heart of Huntington Award is presented to graduating seniors who have demonstrated the core values of the PTA, including school spirit, volunteerism, community involvement, commitment to academics and a willingness to act as a role model for their peers.

Ms. Hernandez is headed to Hofstra University to study psychology. She intends to pursue a career as a physician assistant. Ms. McGuire is headed to Providence College to study neuroscience. Ms. Skrobela will be attending Villanova University to study English and political science. Ms. Cassatto will be attending Binghamton University to study political science in the pre-law track.

Huntington UFSD has one of the longest and proudest traditions of any district in the country. For more than 100 years, the Parent Teacher Association, or PTA as it is widely known, has been an active partner with the educational professionals responsible for educating the tens of thousands of students who have moved through district classrooms.
