Hilarious Comedy Tapped as Fall Drama Club Production

Be prepared to laugh later this fall when the Huntington High School drama club brings Shakespeare to the Jersey Shore with Ken Ludwig’s hilarious comedy “Midsummer/Jersey,” which will be performed in the newly renovated high school auditorium on Friday, November 20 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 21 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Playwright Ken Ludwig describes “Midsummer/Jersey” as a hilarious, high-octane retelling of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” set on the boardwalk of a seaside town in modern-day New Jersey.

The story revolves around the impending marriage of the Governor of New Jersey, the tangled love affairs of four beach-bound high school crushes, a lively crew of screwball fairies, and the staff of a local beauty salon. With several weddings—and the acting careers of six beauticians—hanging in the balance, the lovers take to the boardwalk for a wild adventure fueled by pop music, mistaken identities, romance, and an iPhone-obsessed wood sprite.

“With summer winding down, we thought this was the perfect show to keep a little bit of that Jersey Shore spirit going,” drama club director Michael Schwendemann said. “And with the Snooki Shop closing here in Huntington, we may be losing one little taste of the Jersey Shore—but we’re going to keep it alive and well onstage at Huntington High School!”

Want to be part of the magic? Auditions will be held after school in the Huntington High School auditorium beginning Tuesday, September 22, and continuing throughout the week. Students should prepare a memorized one-minute comic monologue as well as a one-minute Shakespearean monologue in verse. Bring your talent. Bring your energy. Be part of the magic!
