Huntington 103 Plans to Chase Greatness

Get set for Huntington 103. That’s short for the Blue Devil football program’s 103rd season. It kicks off Monday, August 17 at 7:30 a.m.

Huntington will utilize a spread offense and a 3-5-3 defense. The Blue Devils are coming off a playoff season last fall. “We defeated returning Suffolk County champs Hills East in our season opener 28-14,” head coach Ronald E. Wilson said. “Nine points separated us from the top spot in Division II. We lost to East Islip14-7 and then to Northport 16-14. Unfortunately, injuries caught up to us in the second round of playoffs and we lost to Hills East.”

Huntington’s coaches met this past Tuesday for a planning session and cookout in the backyard of Wilson, who cooked everything himself. Varsity, JV and middle school coaches along with several board of education approved volunteer coaches attended the festivities.

“Last season, we emphasized the importance of protecting the football and finishing drives with touchdowns in the red zone, especially against Hills East,” Wilson said. “Our players embraced that challenge, and we delivered. This year, we'll rely on a new group of athletes who are eager to make their own mark. You can expect a team that competes with relentless effort every week, plays with discipline and toughness, and continues to build a winning culture one game at a time.”

The Blue Devils have been training all summer with weight lifting and conditioning workouts during optional morning and evening sessions. Players fared well in the 7x7 summer league with Huntington reaching the finals.

“The 2025 season marked an important step forward for us as we returned to the playoffs,” Wilson said. “That validated our program’s progress and has fueled our desire to take the next step. The mission for 2026 is clear: rebuild, recharge, and reclaim the winning edge that has become synonymous with Huntington football. The standard isn’t making the playoffs anymore. The standard is competing for championships. Last year, our mantra was, ‘Nothing Easy’ and it was certainly not easy. This year, we are ‘Chasing Greatness.’”
