Katie Sorto Cabrera Wins Latino Legal Leaders Scholarship

Katie Sorto Cabrera is the second ever recipient of the Latino Legal Leaders Scholarship presented in the amount of $2,000 by the law firm of Gabriel and Moroff. The Huntington High School Class of 2026 member intends to continue her education at St. John’s University in Queens.

“I would like to thank the Huntington administration for giving my firm, Gabriel and Moroff a chance to give back to the community and to be part of this very special night,” Jason Moroff said. “We chose Huntington for a special reason; my wife Judy Moroff is an administrator here and I see every day how much this community means to her.”

Mr. Moroff and his wife, who serves as Huntington UFSD’s director of world languages, English as a new language and bilingual programs, presented the new scholarship at the high school’s senior scholarships and awards night.

The Latino Legal Leaders Scholarship was created by Gabriel and Moroff to support students of Latino descent who are passionate about pursuing a career in law. “This scholarship is about academics but also about leadership and the drive to create meaningful change in our communities,” Mr. Moroff told the crowd at the ceremony.

A member of the National Honor Society as well as the Social Studies and Spanish Honor Societies, Ms. Sorto held executive leadership roles with several high school clubs; she earned special seals and designations on her diploma for special academic accomplishments; she excelled in the Virtual Enterprise business program and was in the top one percent nationally in one of the business competitions.

Gabriel and Moroff is a personal injury, workers' compensation and no-fault law firm located throughout the five boroughs of New York and on Long Island.

This is why we created the Latino Legal Leaders Scholarship.”

The firm has also been active in support of Huntington High School’s mock trial program, with attorneys, including Mr. Moroff participating as volunteer judges.
