Huntington UFSD Celebrates National School Lunch Week

October 16, 2025

Huntington UFSD is celebrating National School Lunch Week and the national school lunch program responsible for serving nearly 30 million students daily. This year’s weeklong theme is “Taste the World: Your School Lunch Passport,” which highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom.

Research shows that many children are getting their healthiest meals at school. National School Lunch Week will highlight the nutritious foods available daily at Huntington UFSD.

“School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,” said Lauren Kearley, Huntington UFSD’s school lunch manager. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.”

The federally funded national school lunch program has been fueling students for success for 79 years. Established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National School Lunch Week celebrates the importance of a healthy school lunch and the positive impact it has inside and outside the classroom.

“This year’s theme, ‘Taste the World: Your School Lunch Passport’ invites students to explore global flavors right from the cafeteria,” Ms. Kearley said. Balanced nutrition throughout the day helps students thrive in the classroom and beyond.

At Huntington UFSD, every school lunch includes fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and fat-free or low-fat milk.

“Let’s celebrate nutritious meals that power learning and curiosity every day,” Ms. Kearly said.
