Southdown School Celebrates October’s Stars

November 7, 2025

Southdown Primary School has always liked to boast about its sensational students. Southdown has been trumpeting the accomplishments of the youngsters studying there since the building first opened on Browns Road in September 1954.

Southdown Principal Jill Amott-Erwig and current faculty and support staff members are no different than their predecessors over the past 71 years in their desire to recognize a job well done. So, the school community recently celebrated an outstanding group of students spread across grades K-3.

Southdown is the home of the dolphins, the school’s mascot. Students are awarded “splashes” for displaying positive behavior in the classroom and throughout the building.

One Southdown student is selected from each class in the building for formal recognition at the monthly “splash” assembly. The school considers these youngsters to be its “stars of the month.”

October’s Splash Stars include:

Universal Pre-Kindergarten: Sofia Flores Caballero, Yarely Bonilla Ramirez

Kindergarten: Cameron Burke, McKynzie Young, Dionna Dadzie, Megan Brown

First Grade: Garrett Weissman, Henry Hughes, Gian Vilorio Ramos

Second Grade: Ashley Valeriano Ponce, Brandon Cabrera Zavala, Emily Migliore, Jack Butkovich

Third Grade: Jackson Kessler, Jack Login, Ja’sir Parker, Adrian Jimenez

The Southdown School community has always held its collective head high, confident in the belief that students receive an exceptional and well-rounded education in the building.

Nestled in one of the prettiest areas of the district and only a short walk from the stunning waterfront, the school has always been a great place for young people. Southdown has traditionally had a very strong faculty and support staff and this year is no different. Several newcomers came aboard over the summer months and they have seamlessly joined the school’s veterans.
