Big Donation to Blue Market at Huntington High School

November 6, 2025

The Blue Market & Bluetique at Huntington High School is the recent beneficiary of a large donation by the Junior Welfare League of Huntington.

The Blue Market (food pantry) & Bluetique (clothing and other personal items) was established to support Huntington High School families facing food insecurity and other needs. Its goal is to collect and distribute supplies, food and clothing to create a free, robust resource for the district.

The pantry and closet are run by students, with organization and stocking handled by student volunteers, teachers and support staff. Various student groups (i.e. student government, Interact club) host food drives to maintain the pantry’s stock.

The Junior Welfare League JWL has served those in need throughout Huntington Township for nearly 90 years. The organization is composed of a small group of local volunteer women who believe volunteerism is both a responsibility and a privilege.

“We coordinated directly with Genoffa Brady, vice president of youth activation, who helped facilitate and provide details on this incredible donation,” Huntington UFSD neighborhood aide Evelin Vilorio said.

The donation included a large assortment of food for the pantry and dozens of jackets for students in need. The items were collected on October 17 at Stop & Shop in Huntington by JWL members, parents, and Huntington UFSD students.

In addition to food and coats, JWL members shopped for essential household items using generous monetary donations collected during the drive.

“The event also helped raise awareness of JWL's mission to support families and individuals in our community,” Ms. Vilorio said. “A special highlight goes to Gellerman Orthodontics, who donated two large bags of coats and sweatshirts.”

The JWL continues to support the community through various charitable programs including Lift Fund, holiday charities, Backpacks for Success, Camo for Kids and the Charitable Children’s Fund.

Any student in need of a coat or food can stop by Room 117 at Huntington High School.
