Blue Devils Upend North Babylon in League Play, 52-46

The Huntington girls’ basketball team resumed its winning ways at North Babylon on Tuesday night as the Blue Devils topped the Bulldogs in an exciting game, 52-46. Grace Gordon hits three crucial free throws in the final minute to keep Huntington head.

The Blue Devils led 12-9 after one quarter and went ahead 26-22 by halftime. But North Babylon rallied in the third quarter to take a one point lead, 36-35. The scored stayed close until the final minutes when Huntington started to pull away, at least partly due to Gordon’s sharp free throw shooting.

Ava McDonald scored 18 points and added three assists, three steals and a rebound. Madyn Kalb had nine points, five steals, four assists and four rebounds. Jolie Weinschreider dropped a pair of three-pointers and had eight points, four rebounds and two assists.

Huntington’s defense once again performed well, holding North Babylon to just 10 points over the final eight minutes. The Bulldogs entered the game with a 3-1 record.

Gordon finished with eight points, five rebounds and an assist. Leighton Evans had seven points, two assists and two rebounds and Claire Dello-Iacono scored two points and added a rebound.

McDonald and Evans also tallied three-point baskets during the game. Olivia Rush led North Babylon with 21 points.

The Blue Devils host league foe Newfield tonight (Thursday) in Louis D. Giani Gym at 6 p.m.
