College Awareness Day in Huntington UFSD

December 17, 2025

Huntington UFSD recently celebrated its annual districtwide College Awareness Day, an initiative designed to promote a college-going culture and encourage students to begin thinking about their future educational goals.

Students and staff across the district participated by wearing college-themed apparel representing a wide range of colleges, universities, and postsecondary pathways. Classrooms, hallways, and common spaces reflected the spirit of the day, reinforcing the message that college and career readiness is a shared, districtwide priority beginning at an early age.

“College Awareness Day serves as an important opportunity to spark conversations about postsecondary options, build familiarity with higher education, and help students envision themselves pursuing future academic and career goals,” said Dr. Ricky V. Papandrea Jr., district director of school counseling and testing, K-12. “By celebrating college experiences across all grade levels, the district continues to support long-term planning and student aspiration.”

Regardless of the specific school building, students, faculty and staff displayed enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day.

Huntington teachers and counselors really do believe that it’s never too early to start thinking about the future, even if you are in elementary school. While college is probably one of the last things on the mind of a young student, beginning to build a foundation of knowledge and taking stock of a person’s own interests is a worthwhile pursuit at any age the faculty members claim.
