Blue Devil Girls’ Lax Seniors Honored

Four very special seniors all played key roles in the Huntington varsity girls’ lacrosse team’s historic season, which saw the Blue Devils compile an 18-3 record and win Suffolk and Long Island championships. Devon St. John, Sabrina Boyle, Jenna Italiano and Sophie Carlson were always be remembered for the rugged competitors and great teammates they are.

The four teenagers were honored by varsity girls’ lacrosse coaches Katie Reilly, Chris Taylor and Lauren Blackburn at the 57th annual Blue Devil senior athletic awards ceremony.

Ms. St. John captured the Most Outstanding Player Award with Ms. Boyle recognized as the Most Valuable Offensive Player. Ms. Italiano garnered the Heart & Hustle Award and Ms. Carlson was presented the Coaches Award for her notable commitment to the team and to all-around excellence on and off the field.

An Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, Ms. St. John is headed to Cornell University where she has been recruited to play on the college’s lacrosse team. Ms. Boyle plans to attend Binghamton University and play on that school’s lacrosse team. Ms. Italiano will be attending and playing lacrosse at Molloy University. Ms. Carlson will be attending James Madison University.

The season’s highlights included defeating state powerhouse Northport twice in overtime; beating No. 1 ranked Ward Melville and topping two-time defending Long Island champion Massapequa.

All four seniors were Section XI Goal Key recipients after playing in at least eight of nine possible season during grades 10-12.
