H-ton Girls’ Tennis Opens with Winning Streak

September 12, 2025

The Huntington varsity girls’ tennis team has opened the season with a winning streak. The Blue Devils have captured four straight victories, including two by 4-3 scores.

Huntington is coached by veteran Jamie Fishlow. The Blue Devils are captained by Isabella Palacios, Bridget Callery and Mia Kaufman.

Huntington has a veteran team that was one of Suffolk’s finest last fall. The roster includes freshman Nina Altarac; juniors Grace Callery, Mia Einemann, Amanda Ganley, Kate Gordon, Grace Kline and Fiona Lynch and seniors Bridget Callery, Grace Gordon, Madeleine Kalenderian, Mia Kaufman, Olivia Kaufman, Naomi Lyons, Grace Olivia, Isabella Palacios and Valentina Puccio.

“So far, this year’s tennis season is going great.” Grace Gordon said. “There is a lot of close talent on the team, which helps us to push each other and compete during practice. Coach Fishlow has been pushing us as well in our skills and play, which has been paying off in our matches. I’m excited to keep working and continue the success that the team has been having.”

Half the team, or eight players in all are members of Huntington’s Long Island championship girls’ lacrosse team.

“The season’s off to an amazing start, thanks to Coach Fishlow’s leadership and our brand-new courts,” Puccio said. “The team has been playing strong across both singles and doubles, and I’m lucky to have such a great doubles partner. Our communication on the court is the key to our success and we are having a lot of fun out there.”

The Blue Devils opened the season with identical 6-1 victories over Smithtown West and Walt Whitman, before edging Half Hollow Hills West and Kings Park by twin 4-3 scores.

“Right now, our season is going really well,” Palacios said. “We’re 4-0 and I think our doubles have improved a lot compared to last year. A big part of that is thanks to the volley training Coach Fishlow has had us working on since the start of the season. This is my sixth season on the team and I’m so sad to see it coming to an end. We only have about five weeks left in the regular season, not including playoffs, and it feels like it’s gone by so fast. I’m really excited for the rest of the season, though, because if we keep up our strong doubles play along with our singles, I think we can be very successful.”

There are nine more regular season dual meets followed by divisional and county team and individual tournaments.
